This beautiful Cuff in Sterling Silver is produced by Nosheen Bakhsh in Dubai (UAE). The pattern recreates a Jaali. Jaali means “net”. It is a latticed screen, usually with arabesque patterns, that you can find in many windows of buildings of traditional Arab architecture. Its purpose was to lower the temperature by providing shadow and letting the air flow through the holes. Later it became widely used for privacy and security. Palaces in the region usually have several walls and windows beautifully decorated with jaalis. Thanks to the jaalis, the queens and the ladies in the palace could observe privately what was happening in the courtyards. Jaalis are part of the Arab aesthetics although their origin dates further back.
This cuff is part of a set with different options: rings, earrings, and cuffs of different thickness and materials. The cuff is easily adaptable to your wrist. Add the ring or the earrings for a total Jaali look! Each of the items is sold separately.
Sheen follows the Slow movement and it is a Socially responsible brand that helps different causes. At the moment she is helping the UNHCR with the Rohingya refugee crisis. From time to time, she changes the cause she supports as there might be new disasters or humanitarian emergencies needing more immediate help.
